A few details about Watsonians Hockey Club
I am delighted to welcome you to the Watsonians Hockey Club website, the best and most sociable hockey club in the Edinburgh area.
The current club was formed in 1999 as the result of a merger between the previously male only Watsonian Hockey Club, originally founded in 1924, and its sister club, Watsonian Ladies H C.
Our club colours are maroon tops, navy blue shorts/skirts and maroon socks. Our alternative strip is white tops and socks with navy blue shorts/skirts, and red socks are worn for away matches. Our home ground is at Tipperlinn, the Astroturf pitch situated behind George Watson’s College in Colinton Road.
We run eight outdoor teams, four men’s teams and four women’s teams. Our men’s firsts play in the National League, Division 1B; the seconds are in the Central League, Division One; and we have two teams in the East District Mens’ League. Our women’s first team are in the National League, Division Two; the seconds are in the National Reserve League; and the other two teams play in the East District Women’s League. We also have three squads playing in the National Indoor Leagues, two men’s and one women’s.
We have a number of professional coaches across the club. Coaching and training takes place at Tipperlin every Tuesday and Thursday evening. We also have a youth coaching programme involving sessions for boys and girls on a Sunday morning, which provides players for our two youth development teams, as well as for the higher team
Regrettably this all costs money, most of which has to be raised from our members. The annual subscription of £195 is due at the start of the season, but can be paid quarterly by standing order. There is a discount of £60 for members who are under 22 at the start of the season and full-time students, and there is an under-18 subscription of £60. Full details of these and also a form for you to give us the details we need for our club mailing list and SHU player registration can be found on this site. We look forward to seeing you soon at Watsonians hockey club.
