Ladies' 4s
Team Report 2007/2008 by Rachel Ruxton
Well, what can I say – what a start to the season. I took over as captain back in August, and thought I was going to be short of players as several players from the previous season left to pursue other ventures. However, we had six new adults join the team which brought our squad up to around 15 players!
The attackers and mids have played their hearts out – scoring 31 goals in nine games! So well done to Natasha, Leanne, Rach A, Rach L, Peggy, Shirley, Jodie, Karen and Judith. The defenders have worked equally as hard – only four balls have got past us in nine games. Again, fab work Nicola, Demi, Christy, Cheetah, and of course Lizzie.
I think a couple of, actually quite a few, moments stand out for me in the last few months:
• Nicola P’s overnight change in playing style – Little Miss Right Defence
• The look on the opposition’s faces when Shirley or Cheetah are challenging them – terrified is not the word
• The chanting of ‘82’ when we played up at Edinburgh Uni
• Leanne’s veeerrrry subtle ‘point’ when she scores a goal
• Karen’s ‘Go Cheetah’ shout – you have to hear it to believe it
• Several chats with Demi to ‘chill....’,although loving her dedication
• Judith’s full body dive to stop a ball from getting in the D
We are currently top of our league, so we are starting this year on a high.Although we lost out in the Cup, we are now in the Plate, with our first gameaway to Dundee University.
I think I speak for the whole team when I say I love the 4s. The team this year has completely gelled, the team morale is amazing and everyone really enjoys the games.
I would like to say a BIG thank you to everyone who has umpired for us so far – Darren, Katie M, Katie H, Jen, and Kerr. Also to Yvette and CJ for arranging all the fixtures. And last but definitely not least to Dickie, who as well as coaching us on a Thursday night, helps me out when I’m struggling for cars or umpires.
Hopefully we’ll keep it up for 2008. Go 4s!
