Edinburgh Uni 5s (A) Won 5-1
The first game back after the Christmas break can often start slowly, taking a while to get back into the rhythm of the game but this was not the case for the ‘Sonians 3s this year. After 40 seconds Roy Howell broke into the Uni ‘D’ and slammed a shot through the ‘keeper at the near post.
The good start continued in the 4th minute when Donald Murison cracked home a short corner into the roof of the net off the unfortunate ‘keeper’s pads. Despite a number of good chances they were unable to increase the lead before the break.
After the lightening start to the first half you would have thought that Uni would have been braced for the second half but Malcolm Reid scored after 35 seconds, breaking clear of the defence and playing a lovely one-two with the ‘keeper to make it 3-0. Uni rallied and grabbed one back but after good wing play from Reid, Cam Asmar was on hand to knock the ball home at the back post to restore the 3 goals advantage. A wonderful strike from Craig Paterson near the end saw the ball crashing high into the net and the 3 points heading home with Watsonians.
