Tense shootout sees girls claim title for third successive season.

Watsonians U18 Girls have won the Scottish Cup for the 3rd year running in a thrilling, tense final against CALA Edinburgh in Glasgow.

CALA took the lead with a penalty corner from Amy Costello, but Joanna Prentice got a deserved equaliser after 26 minutes to make it 1-1 at half time. With both defences under pressure from fast, skilful forwards, it was no surprise when Lucy Ramsay's reverse stick 'rocket' flew past the keeper to give 'Sonians the lead after 44 minutes. Phoebe Crosthwaite equalised for CALA 3 minutes later to set up a very tense finish, but it finished 2-2.

And so to running penalties ... with the first seven being scored before Watsonians' Amy Dunbar made a great save. Gina Ramsay was unable to seal the win, but Amy pulled off another brilliant stop to win it 4-3 for 'Sonians and start the celebrations. Claire Hill, Catriona McLellan, Lucy Gray and Lucy Ramsay were the scorers for Watsonians.

Congratulations to the girls for a superb display against a top-quality CALA side full of internationalists. The defence was outstanding, with 14 year-old Lucy Nickerson having a superb U18 debut. Catriona McLellan and Claire Hill worked tirelessly to win the midfield battle, and the forwards caused the CALA defence a lot of problems with their strong running.

The large crowd, including the Scotland Senior Ladies squad, created a great atmosphere in the new National Hockey Stadium, and watched Claire Hill collect the Scottish Cup for Watsonians.

Coach Gordon Wilson got his tactics spot on, assisted by Louise McKenna. Manager, George Thornton commented, "I'm really proud of the girls for this achievement - they were outstanding tonight. They've worked so hard this season and over many years, and this is a well-deserved reward for their efforts".

Squad: Amy Dunbar, Catriona McLellan, Mel McCallum, Claire Prentice, Mairi Shaw, Claire Hill, Joanna Prentice, Lucy Gray, Emily Reid, Jasmine Banks, Katherine Fraser, Gina Ramsay, Lucy Ramsay, Kirsty Jack, Lucy Nickerson, Imogen Bryce.
