Match report by Sarah McIvor

Well as they say, and as the length of this report would indicate, it's been too long. Last we left off, the L2s were revelling in the glory of a winning streak that saw them defeat top of the table ESM to secure second place and my, hasn't life just kept on getting better....

Dundee University 2s: It’s fair to say that road trip naps and a rather unfortunate “Bambi on Ice/accidental but glorious can-can” moment by err… certain members of the defence, made for a rather uncharacteristically poor start to this match. However, fuelled by Lucozade, Berocca and an abundance of competitive spirit, the L2s certainly turned this around and simply could not stop scoring goals. Final score, after some excellent and clinical play, was 10-1 to Watsonians.

Strathclyde University 1s: The following weekend saw the L2’s love affair with the M8 rekindled as we zoomed off to Stepps to try and continue the unbeaten run. Hats off to some great play by Strathclyde, however the Watsonians side (fuelled this time it would seem by AoCS* and a desire to feel warm again) ran away with the match and added another victory to the bag: 6-1 to Watsonians.

Perthshire Ladies 1s: Now this match was indeed an unexpected twist in the 2016/17 Season tale. For reasons unknown to apparently even Perthshire Ladies, the majority of their 1XI simply disappeared and Perthshire were forced to concede. Perhaps the lambing season was claiming its victims, or the rumours that Lucy Ramsay’s straight strike could split bone in two (but like seriously, it just might) were given too much weight, however 5-0 and a welcome 3 points were awarded to Watsonians.

Kelburne Ladies 2s: It is fair to say that this match was as much a test of patience and sportsmanship, as it was skill and fitness. Genuine thanks and well done to the team for rising above some unfavourable decisions and securing a 4-2 victory over the home side. A special thank you to Matt, who could be seen chopping away at oranges in the dug-out to ensure the weather-beaten victors had ample half time snacks.

Moving swiftly along, the L2s secured two 7-0 wins over both St Andrews University 2s and Ayr Ladies 1s, which meant that victory in the final game of the season had the potential to result in the winning of Championship B by none other than Watsonians Ladies As (cue jelly leggedness).

Uddingston Ladies 1s: So, there we were. Clad in finest maroon. Battling against both the weight of expectation and the untimely pitch watering’s conducted by Peffermill staff, knowing that a victory was needed to secure us the title. This was not a match for those of a nervous disposition. All we needed was a goal, a challenge which had not been achieved by half time. However, as the closely contested war waged on, it was L2s player of the year, Tash Jacobs, who deflected an overhead volley into the goal, earning the eternal love and gratitude of her team mates. Final score: 1-0 to Watsonians.

End of season stats as follows: 17 wins, 3 losses, 15 consecutive victories, 98 goals for, 22 against, 51 points and WINNERS of Championship Division B!! Nae Bad.

A huge thanks to our coaches, umpires, supporters, parental chauffeurs, the committee and the vivacious and dedicated Ladies 2s squad.

Onwards to Championship A.

Lots of love

Ladies 2s xx
