A winning start to the second half of the season.

By Sarah McIvor

Hibernation amongst the Christmas tinsel and winter furs is now well and truly over for the Ladies 2s, and we are pleased to say that we have returned to the second half of the season in something of a (thermal clad) blaze of glory. We agree, how exciting.

Our first match back was against Stirling Wanderers Ladies 1s, a team to which we suffered a narrow and painful defeat to at the start of the season. However, as they say, vengeance is sweet, and a blustery day at Tippers saw a more polished L2s side start the season with an 8-0 victory. Special shout out (SSO) to the goal scorers who, somewhat unperturbed by conditions (pretty sure Dorothy had less hassle in her Kansas to Oz adventure) delivered some pretty special finishes.

Match numero dos was against our old pals Grange. After certain members finally agreed to stop trying to play the match at the neighbouring ESM pitch, we went on to secure a 4-1 victory over the home side. SSO to Neasa, our fabulous keeper and alternative nutritional queen, for her half time Big Mac. Protein levels and number of awestruck looks: high. RIP half time oranges.

This weekend. Well. It was big one (minus the Mac).

On Saturday, we faced the undefeated top of league, ESM L2s. Challenge on. This was something of a nail biting encounter, with some last minute short corners leaving the Watsonian’s anxiety levels at Valium deserving heights. The Watsonians side however delivered a clinical and (generally) composed performance, and danced off the pitch with a 3-2 victory. SSO to a tireless Watsonians midfield.

It was road trips and freckles all round on Sunday for an away match against Uddingston Ladies 1s, who were sitting third, putting the pressure on Watsonians. This was a battle that put Russell Crowe and his chain clad Gladiator buddies to shame. A tired, yet courageous Watsonians side managed to secure a 2-1 victory. SSO to newcomer Olivia Bell who made not one, but two off the line saves (to much applause and gratitude). Notes also given to Lucy Ramsay's top corner reverse stick goal and the mac and cheese match teas, which Mary had so longed for. That’s what you get for not playing on your birthday Mary.

As it stands, the Ladies 2s sit second in the table with an impressive 58 goals *pause for audible gasp*, a mere four points off ESM. This weekend, the team face another road trip to take on Dundee Uni, with the L2s looking for a ninth consecutive victory.
