Ladies 2s Season Round Up 2017/18

After a brief hiatus, the Ladies 2s are following in the steps of almost every 90s pop group at the moment, and making an overdue return... to the Match Reporting forum. We offer you, our season round up...

The Season
At the start of the season, the goal set for the Ladies 2s was simple: stay in Championship A. The beginning was impressive and victory laden, establishing the Ladies 2s as a force to be reckoned with. Notable moments being when the coach for a well-recognised Glaswegian L2s team shook our hands to “you guys are actually really good”. We’ll take it.

However, as the dark Siberian sponsored winter set in, the fortunes of the L2s did not continue on its initial bright and bountiful trajectory. Leaving out our first encounter with the newly laid Peffermill pitch (eek) and the odd depleted and wobbly legged away trip, our performances were ever improving, losing by narrow margins to challenging opponents. The hard work did, however, pay off with the L2s bounding on to convincingly win four of their last five matches, culminating in 10-0 defeat of Grove Menzieshill Ladies 2s and recording the biggest league victory of the season for their 13-0 win over CALA. (Woop)

L2s have exceeded their target by finishing 6th, which sees them in the top half of the table, securing their place in Champ A next year.

Other Achievements:

The Umpiring
Ladies 2s have earned more umpiring badges this year than the local Brownie pack, with 3 more badged umpires (no one said this was a large or successful Brownie pack) and 2 waiting assessment, we look onwards to umpiring domination.

Of special note is the awarding of umpiring level one badge to Emily. This lady of high class is made of exceptionally strong stuff. One fine evening, after clearly winning a game of prosecco pong, she went on to lose a fight with a radiator. However, [insert epic Marvel comic “rising from the battlefield” scene] undeterred by her recent concussion, and, err, head wound, she boldly ventured forth and umpired the youth game so well she passed. Ladies’ a natural.

The Trips to Oz
After Gael’s attempt at dancing on ice led to ankle impairment, we were very sad to have her sit out the rest of the season. Not to be idle, however, she jetted off to Australia to volunteer at the Commonwealth Games, hobbling after Athletics finest and partying the night away with her host [Sheila] (who may or may not have been living in a retirement community...)

The Engagements
There was much excitement this year with Lindsay, Mary and Coach Nikki all becoming engaged, congratulations to all. They are due to be wed most imminently, as soon as we hit the summer - seems wise to have skipped spring given a week ago guests would have needed fur and may have contemplated taking up ice fishing in the gardens of the venue.

Mask Gate: Back to Full Possession
To those who now “own” the Ladies 2s masks (you thieves), may they protect you always.

Over and Out
A massive thank you to Nikki and Keith, the Committee, chauffeuring Parents, haphazard supporters, all our umpires and the dedicated Ladies 2s squad. Excited for next season already!
