Opening day defeat to Grange

The mighty 3's returned to the field for the first of their official league matches. Spirits were high after months of summer hockey training, and intensive fitness training for those not involved.

The game stared well and in high spirits with each team wanting to make an impact early. Due to an unfortunate early blunder from an unnamed Watsonians player (Dom Wright [whoops, sorry]), our opponents managed to finish a perfect pass to the top top D. Game on.

Relentless pressure from Watsonians followed, causing a series of saves, miss-hits and an eventual goal from LJ. Obligatory mention of an assist goes to David Hogarth. Just.

The second half was a mess. If you were wearing maroon... To sum it up, several missed semi-open goals (Phil Long to blame, maybe), a couple of easily conceded goals and a general lack of fitness. Overall not a bad performance but just not good enough, especially from anyone in a position to score a goal. Man of the Match went to the stalwart C Sholdis, a solid member of the defensive team. His recent marathon training showing during the match.

Not the best performance for a team looking to win the league, but the only way is up. Baby.
