Let the campaigning begin!

Symbolically, the 3's captain Duncan Bell handed over the reins of control to Chris Sholdis. “Sholdis don't worry” were
some of the words of wisdom imparted from the seasoned Bell, and as predicted no one needed to.

The game got off to a slow start with four players arriving at the wrong pitch. Rallied together by Philip Long they eventually found the rest of the team and joined in celebrating the ladies 1’s victory. Slightly delayed but as eager as ever, the 3’s started the match with the passion and vigor you would expect from a pregame Sholdis pep talk. The Grange side didn't know what hit them and after only 10 minutes Watsonians were 2-0 up and looking stronger than than strong. More Belfastian battle cries echoed from the back and in return more goals sank home. 4-0 at the half time mark with special mention going to Dom Wright for a sublime finish that his striking teammates could only be envious of.

Half time brought another chance for some words of wisdom from a clear Captain shaped head and, bolstered by the encouragement, the team ran back to start the next 35 minutes. A drag flick that nearly decapitated a Watsonians defender gave Grange their first goal, but in return a solid reverse stick sweep from diamond player Jack clocked another goal for the men in maroon.
Grange picked up another goal from a short corner routine but at this stage they knew how the game was going. Some excellent team passing in the D set up David Hogarth for an easy, yet clinical, finish into the side netting. 6-2 to Watsonians as the full time whistle blew (sharply and clearly by our unimpeachable umpire Michelle Littlejohn).
With the final whistle came a chance for Watsonians to gather in the dugout for a post match debrief from the interim Captain, which gave a glimmer of what might be to come for next season's games. I phased out at this point but judging from the sincere nods and emotional tears from one player, the words hit home. Dare I say it? I do. The people want more.
