Match Report by Phil Long, but where is Sandy?

The 3s first match of the season has led to their first victory. It saw them pitted against arch(?) rivals Fidra who were traveling away from home, looking to repeat the victory they had in a friendly a few weeks earlier.

The game started quickly with both teams driving to make their mark in the early in the match. The first goal came from new signing Rob, who expertly flicked it over the prone keeper straight into the hand of a Fidra defender. No matter, goal. 1-0 Watsonians.

Quick fire was their pace and no one could keep up. Not even Fidra, who allowed Hogie ample time to twist on the spot and fire one past the keeper. 2-0 Watsonians, celebrated by a humble finger wave by the goal scorer. Classy.

Half time came and team talks flew. Morale was lifted, spirits were warmed, and the atmosphere was one of jubilant euphoria. We could not lose. At this point it should be noted that in the line of duty Philip Long fell and injured his ankle. He sat out the rest of the game, but gave profound insight into tactical maneuvers throughout the sending half. [Propaganda]

With the second half, came a glorious goal from Iain S who slotted it in from the back post. A truly remarkable feat for a man whose main game is rugby. Lots of hockey followed, following by lots more hockey. Fidra scored, but no one remembers how [actually it was a penalty corner flick by the big man Gary], then the final whistle blew. It was a blur. A whirlwind of emotion.

We won, they lost. End of story. 3s on track for the number one place...

[Phil was DoD and Robin (unmentioned by Phil here) was MoM]
