Match Report by Hogie

Coming of the back off two draws, the 3’s were up against bottom of the table Inverleith.

An opportunity to get back to winning ways and improve our goal difference.

A bright and positive start to the half brought an early goal for Rob Taylor, looping off the defenders stick and dropping just over the keeper's head and into the back of the net. The defence were working well, snuffing out the occasional breaks. Other opportunities were created but none taken as the first half drew to a close.

The half time team talk focused on minimising the influence of the Inverleith central midfielder and continuing with our speed of play and positive communication. Wise words!

A further ten minutes of attacking hockey was played out with little return, until Mr Booth performed a neat pirouette in the D and slotted into the bottom left hand corner from a tight angle. This seemed to relax the team, and our energy and passing picked up another level. A good team move led to Murray Cannon having a one-on-one with the keeper, rather than taking the conventional route he opted to lob him from wide out left, with the ball dropping just inside the right hand post – a well taken goal.

At this stage Richard Gray decided to tackle an opposition player (it was Wall) from the wrong side and picked up a nasty looking gash to the head. A trip to A&E followed and time to reflect on his tackling technique.

There followed a couple of other goals from one of the more ‘mature’ players in the team, one from a yard and the other a little further out.

This brought the game to a successful conclusion with a well-earned, 5-0 win.

Well done to the school boys, Sam, Will and Murray who all put in a good performance and worked hard.

MoM was Murray Cannon. Well done Murray.
DoD was Hogie, for nearly killing Rob Taylor as he was lying on the goal line.
