The 3s began their cup run with the short trip along the M8 to Clydesdale looking to continue their league form in the cup.
The opening 20 minutes of the game saw Watsonians dominating proceedings, playing some of the best hockey of the season so far, but quite typically against the run of play the 3s found themselves 1-0 down via a short corner.
No matter though as the boys continued to press once again. Good work through the middle saw Iain Struthers and Sandy link up in the D to give Iain S a tap in at the back post putting the 3s back on level terms. 1-1
The rest of the first half continued in this fashion and Clydesdale managed to sneak a goal in from another short. 2-1 Clydesdale at HT.
In the absence of Rob Stewart it was down to Littlejohn to provide the motivational speech at half time which seemed to have the lads riled up for an inspired second half. However, the second half continued almost exactly the same as the first.. Another Clydesdale short saw the boys 3-1 down.
Frustrations began to set in as Watsonians pressed hard and Clydesdale parked the bus. A dispute between Littlejohn and the Clydesdale sweeper saw both players carded and a penalty awarded to the maroons. A glimmer of hope for the 3s, only for this hope to sent a yard wide of the left hand post by Rob Taylor. Needless to say that Taylor won’t be putting his hand up to take a penalty again any time soon.
The 3s did manage to sneak another goal in late in the game through a Littlejohn penalty but it was all too late from the boys in maroon. The cup run was over at the first hurdle.
