Spring Win

Saturday saw the 3s turn out a very strong squad against Stew Mel 2s. The sun was shining down on Tipperlin in an omen of what was to come.

Back on home turf Watsonians struggled to break the initial deadlock. The pressure was building and building for the maroon attack, however, whilst the home team piled it on going forward Stew Mel hit on the break, beating the last defender the forward only had the keeper to beat but Doug kept his cool and won the ball cleanly and the retreating mob arrived in time to do the rest and get the ball clear. The first goal came towards the end of the first half where a ball came in from outside the D and was deflected up at Hogie, with an instant lightening fast reaction came a volley into the top of the net, 1-0 to Watsonians. Half time arrived after an intense first half with the score line being considerably less than what should maybe have been deserved.

The second half began with the same pressure as before. Constant attack was made down the right flank with Stew Mel having a particular dislike for not wanting to protect against anyone driving their baseline. Hogie took advantage of this to make his way round the defender and played a ball across the D where it was met by the super Spaniard Alex who finished the ball into the side netting. A very strong finish considering it was coming across his body. 2-0 Watsonians. The second half brought more chances but considerably more for Stew Mel and it was once again the fantastic composure of Doug in goals that earned a clean sheet for the lads after a number of Stew Mel short corners.

Another win and the league title still in sight, there is lots of promise going into the weekend after the Easter break.
