After a difficulty second half last week against CALA, Watsonians wanted to come out and play the way they did in the first half of that match. Inverleith put up a hard game, both teams defense deserves credit. Watsonians were first to have a real chance at goal, with a penalty corner which Alan Timlin can very close with a drag flick which was turned wide by the post defender with a stop even a Scotland player would have been proud with. It was not just Inverleith's defense who were stopping goals with both David Baring and Simon Cox making last minute tackles to stop the attacker going one on one with keeper Euan Hamilton.
Watsonians drew first blood with a ball passed to Josh Rumbol, who finished in the near post. Straight away Nick Smith put excellent pressure on the attacker to stop him getting into the 23 meter zone. Watsonians then finally made it 2-0 after a good time pressuring the Inverleith defense. when the John Ellis got some space just outside the circle who passed it off to Fraser Munro who was unmarked at the back post slotted the ball between the keepers legs. A good first half but one were more goals should have been scored.
The second half started out scrappy and at another penalty corner this time the defender was came off the post and this time Alan's flick went into the goal. The next few minutes were very scrappy with John Ellis getting a matching cut on his eye he now has a pair after getting the first one a few weeks ago at training. More great play on the wings from John and Josh created more chances by this time the Inverleith defense started getting pulled one way and another left Fraser all alone in the circle and finished it again through the keepers legs. Then with 5 minutes to go Alex MacCormac faced with a number of defenders around him played the ball to Fraser on the penalty spot to finish off a strong day for the 4s with his hat-trick (A fine was paid later that night).
Credit goes to everyone but the recycling of the ball around the back. Also to young Euan Hamilton on his first clean sheet at senior level.
