A return to the league

After two weekends of rearranged games being called off the men’s 4’s we keen to get a game under their belt for 2016. With regular faces in the squad there was also a few returns #Munro made only his second appearance of the season. The match was fallowing a resounding 13-0 victory for the ladies 4s. Pre match chat was that we had to keep the game tight and use the ball to play passing hockey.
Both team treating each other’s D’s early on with Martin Booth and #Munro linking up together to win the 4’s a PC with a low drag sent to the right hand post looking for Adam Kinghorn to get the final touch but the drag was well stopped by the post defender. Up the other end Grange won a PC which ended up hitting the back board only for umpire Duncan Bell to rule that the ball had not left the D.
Half time and the chat was that we need to be tighter to stop them moving the ball round the pitch. Keeper Doug Swanson said “Imagine he’s a bird in a club and your trying to get her number” a great visualisation however using Ozzie as the bird I think was more entertaining.
Second half and the match was on a knife edge with both team attacking and some great defending from both side. With another PC which was another drag this time being blocked by the first knee moving to block the shot umpire Duncan looking for assistance from his colleague who was standing at the side line being unsure and unable to make a decision with what he saw play went on.
Late on the game the pace offered by #Munro open some room to run at the goal with the keeper coming out think the keeper would go to ground #Munro looked to lift the ball over but the pad of the keeper stopped the ball in its tracks. With some great last man defending from Simon Cox preventing any last minute goal the final play of the game was a PC from the men in maroon. With the first shot being deflected by the defender the ball fell to Alex Blood who went for the reverse stick volley and sent the ball wide.
Full time 0 – 0 another point on the board for the 4’s.
Man of the Match went to Nick Smith for he’s energy in the midfield offering loads of opportunities to start an attack
Next up a tip to play Boarders in what is sure to be a test of physical strengths of the 4’s
