Fantasy point tastic

Another weekend, another victory and the bandwagon rolls on. #projectpromotion remains on track. For bad behaviour people are sent to Coventry. Our punishment for our recent good form was being sent to Kinross to take on Carnegie.

Having awoken at 9.41 for 10.00 meet, a bleary eyed captain arrived only fractionally late and gratified to find the squad already assembled. Huddled round the white board, they discussed formation, shape, press... No, sadly the captain was still asleep. They were mostly there though, and putting the tardy skipper to shame.

As the convoy left GWC, the captain detoured via Peffermill to pick up three young bucks, fresh from their school hockey exertions. Raez, on tunes. He earned a call up to the starting line-up by impressing the gaffer (or “that old guy” as the lads affectionately refer to him) with a little number by Oasis – released when a nostalgic skip was a mere 15 years of age, and a good few years prior to the remaining occupants of the car being even conceived of, much less conceived.

The chat en route was of snapchats and dates for the end of term social. The gaffer offered some sage words of advice – if only the lads had been listening.

But enough of this – to the action! The choice of 4-3-3 earned squeals of delight from the assembled Sonains. “Sod off”* back to East 3 with your fancy dan formations said the opposition. “We intend to, just as soon as possible”*, said the boys.

Some early pressure from our heroes paid off, as Jamie Bridgefoot strode into the D and delivered a thunderbolt of a strike, which Adam Kinghorn nicked a touch on to fool the Keeper. Next up a well worked (!) short corner routine saw Will Evans fake a strike and slap the ball to an advancing Andrew Mortimer on the post, who slotted home coolly.

Much ado about nothing for the remainder of the half, as Sonians failed to capitalise on their possession, holding on to the ball just a fraction too long in key positions. A late scare from a Carnegie short reminded them that the game was still close, but Fraser “the Gazelle” Munro sprinted out to mop up the danger.

Chastened by their half-time talking to, the lads emerged for the second half in much more clinical mood and soon extended the lead. Some good work on the right of the D by Sam Wilmot created the opportunity for Ollie Dean who slotted home, and shortly after if was Evans the provider again as a trademark mazy run and his determination to use the reverse stick paid off, finding Mortimer again at the back post.

But what’s this? Phil Webb has got lost and stumbled on up front? Not to be outdone, skip soon joined him and the two produced the move of the game, with a fine deflection on by Phil finding Tony in space, who then skilfully guided the ball straight through (much better than round) a defender’s stick and into the path of Fraser Munro who rounded the keeper and tapped it home.

As the fantasy points stacked up, a delirious Tony provided another, this time for Andrew Mortimer who received a diagonal pass at the top of the D, moved forward and finished well on (you guessed it) his reverse. And that was that. 6-0 for the visitors and a happy trip home.

MoM Sam Wilmot. DoD Tony Allan (see above 9.41 wake up).

Livingston next week for the high flying 4s.
