Remarkable

Having played every other team in the league, the 4s glided (glid?) into the last of the first round of fixtures looking for the win that would guarantee them top spot when the dust settles.

A slick surface at Meggetland would hopefully suit our style of play, and so it proved as an early lead was plundered. A pacey through ball from Jamie Bridgefoot eluded the defence and found Tony Allan unmarked around the p spot. Having learned from bitter experience that the more touches he takes, the more chance of disaster, Allan first timed it in off the left hand post. And so with little fanfare, another lead for the boys.

A quick-fire double followed for Adam Kinghorn – the first after good work on the left by Phil Webb saw a shot rebound off the post to Adam, and the second when he showed great anticipation to pounce on a defensive mix up and finish a one-on-one with the Keeper.

Much huffing and puffing followed, but with no further reward prior to half time.

After the break, it was the turn of Will Evans to get on the score sheet, as he added to his collection of virtuoso solo efforts with a reverse stick finish from the edge of the D. The defence looked on aghast. Time stopped for a moment. What was the decision? Goal!

The pick of the bunch followed as a sweet passing move saw Craig Edward collect the ball on the right of the D. “P Spot” yelled Allan, despite being nowhere near said position. Fortunately Edward ignored the shout, looked up and instead delivered a pass to the true position of the “striker”, who again finished first time past a helpless keeper.

One more was to follow as a defensive mix up saw Allan free in the D with a chance to avoid hat-trick avoidance. It could not be avoided though as his attempts avoided the goal via first off the Keeper then off the post. Fortunately Bridgefoot was on hand on the post to tap in and avoid failing to score. Disaster....averted.

And that was that. Despite some interesting defending towards the end (the pick of the bunch being D Thomas repeating his old party piece by passing to the opposition CF (Duncan Bell - are you reading?)) another solid performance and fantasy points galore.

MoM Kinghorn for a glorious two goal performance.

And the conspiracy strikes again as Allan’s two goals earn him DoD for jug avoidance.
