Impressive performance sees a 7-0 win

Off the back of a season opening win last week the Ladies 4s were ready to face their next opposition in the form of Edinburgh University 9s - yes you read that correctly 9s. Very much an unknown quantity as a newly formed team the Ladies 4s were unsure of what lay in store.

Having returned from her travels and questionable cocktails in Vietnam, the Captain opted for a conventional formation to settle everyone in. From the off whistle Watsonians were on the attack into Uni's D, some great runs by a strong midfield - Hughes, Willis & Davies left Uni penned in and panicking. A string of short corners were awarded but unfortunately the first goal took a little longer than it should have. The forwards had some excellent shots on goal, particularly Wilson and the young Jones.

But once Watsonian's found their groove the goals came at a steady pace and the girls in white went into half time with a 3-0 cushion, much like a comfortable blister plaster which really cushions that rubbing shoe.

The second half saw the Ladies 4's put the much revered pendulum formation in motion. The wingers were under strict instructions to keep wide in order to open the play up and take Uni out their comfort zone. This worked effectively to enable the central players space to push forward while giving them the wing options which were well utilised.

The second half quickly turned into one way traffic as Watsonian's midfield picked up some loose Uni passes and capitalised in pushing play back into the D. It wasn't long before Jones sealed her hattrick and Wilson added to her tally. Watsonian's defence remained tight and orderly throughout the game with time to file their nails and ponder the meaning of life.

The match finished in a convincing 7-0 win with a lot of positives to be taken for Watsonians. Some new young girls making excellent debuts for the team and everyone collectively contributing to a well structured, attacking game. Let's keep this up for Grange next weekend.
