- Ladies 4s

There was apprehension in the ranks of the Ladies 4s as to whether Storm Abigail would disrupt a late PB on Saturday afternoon and call for weighted hockey skirts.

The team arrived at Tipperlinn and were greeted by a large gathering of spectators cheering on the Mens 1s in the earlier fixture. Unfortunately as the full time whistle blew it transpired that the crowd were not actually there for ‘the warm up before the main event’ and in fact dispersed almost immediately leaving an abandoned hoodie slumped in one corner of the pitch as a solitary supporter for the Ladies in maroon, we live in hope…

We were facing Boroughmuir 2s who were relegated last season and seemed to be struggling with only a couple of wins chalked on the board so far this season. Despite the stats the captain knew that such an opposition could not be written off, particularly given the wintery conditions which would add to the challenge her team faced.

Due to a late push back, the Ladies 4s were able to benefit from some young legs in the team in the form of some of the 4's school girls. Young Amy in goal was ready and raring to go with the majority of the team just relieved they wouldn’t have to trust the captain in goal this week. Despite Amy’s enthusiasm there was not much action to be had in the Watsonians’ D in the first half as the attacking crusade of Olivia, Katie and Anna cooked up quite the storm in the opposition D. This was backed up by high energy performances from Angela, Jenny and Carly who were working hard in the maroon engine room. Watsonians dominated play all over the pitch with precision passing and switch play straight out the training ground.

The short corner training that the girls have been focussing on recently is clearly paying off as all 3 goals came from short corner which were executed using a strategy that I cannot disclose for legal reasons.

As we were comfortably cruising at 3-0 with only 5 minutes to go our sweeper Lynsey appeared to get caught up in Storm Abigail's aftermath and swept into the opposition D. A fantastic strike at goal was deflected by the keeper and found its way to Lynsey who, were it not for the outrageous top spin on the ball, was almost certain of joining the party. Next time Lyns!

Some commanding play from Tammy and youngster Anna B in defence meant Watsonians kept a clean sheet as Boroughmuir tried in vain to salvage something.

Another super result means together we march on in our promotion campaign. Well done girls, well deserved!
