- Ladies 4s

Patches of blue sky amongst the menacing rain clouds greeted us as we arrived at Fortress Tipperlinn for our game against Kelso but we were happy enough that it wasn't as bad as it had been earlier in the day... Oh how wrong we were...

At the whistle the Mighty Watsonians Ladies Fours (TM) were quick off the mark and had the ball in the D several time in the first 5 minutes. A few solid saves from the Kelso keeper meant we just couldn't connect to get the ball over the line. Suddenly the light drizzle turned into a raging torrent of water and we were unfortunate to find ourselves playing right into it. Unperturbed Zoe and Carly kept slotting the ball up the right and the attacking play continued. Finally late in the 1st half with some trademark silky skills, Holly drove into the D and a shot from Anna was deflected. Luckily Olivia was poised for the rebound and slipped the ball past the keeper to get us on the score sheet. Sighs of relief all round as we went into a soggy freezing half time huddling for warmth like penguins in the dug out.

The aim of the second half was to roll subs as often as possible to try and prevent frostbite. Kelso had clocked our game plan and started double marking Carly to stop her relentless drives down the sideline. Kelso began to look threatening but Tammy, Lynsey and Alida were solid in the back. Kelso's one shot on goal was easily saved by young Amy who otherwise had a quiet, if somewhat soggy game between the sticks. Lynsey had the hit of the game when, due to the saturated conditions, her stick travelled further than the ball from a defensive hit out resulting in her having to frantically jog to retrieve it... skills...DoD was promptly awarded in her favour.

Kelso kept the pressure on and seemed to have picked the pace up now the rain had eased but Carly decided it was time to do what she does best. Driving into the D with her trademark Scottish Slimmers pace, she skipped (literally skipped) past a handful of defenders and at the narrowest of angles hit the ball past the keeper! 2-0.

Mercifully the rain stopped but the whipping wind and a young fast Kelso side left a soaked and baltic Watsonians team lacking their usual zip and flair. In a bid to keep warm Tammy suddenly decided that a few sprints up front were the order of the day and found herself called into an attacking short. Kelso had a player sent to the half way line for breaking early. The ball came out and the initial strike was rebounded back to Tammy who wound up, smacked it. The ball was deflected off a Kelso stick, shot through the air and went straight into the back of the net clipping the backboard as it went, GOAL TAMMY!!! The wild celebrations continued all the way back to the depths of defence.

3-0 and the only thing the girls in maroon were now worrying about was avoiding hypothermia. Fortunately the few breaks Kelso had were foiled by our ever solid defence and the final whistle went to chalk up our 8th win on the trot.

Sterling efforts today from everyone, well deserved hot baths and cocktails all round! (not the school girls, hot cocoa for you obvs... ;P)

With one scheduled game and a possible rearranged game to go before Christmas we continue our push for promotion!!
