Ladies 4s Go Top

With our last three games having been postponed due to the weather we were understandably nervous having not played a game for over a month.

With #Munro on the whistle we started promptly and began slotting passes together with our trademark silky smooth skills. Pushing forward we battered the ball into the D several times early on but were denied by some lightening reflexes from the Uni keeper and the sheer volume of defenders.

Finally the deadlock was broken by Carly 'Human Running Machine' to settle the nerves. Some stunning hockey from Holly 'Hawaii Scrunchie' quickly added a second and we found our groove. With the halftime score at 4-0 a tactical team talk from Captain Jodie and a few words of encouragement from Chief Cheerleader Elizabeth Sweetman spurred us on and we were back up in the D with several shots on target.

We changed up some of the short corners and came up with a winning formula (top secret obviously) that gave us some more options and resulted in goals. A beautiful straight strike from Jenny Hughes was only going one way - crashing into the backboard.

The Uni picked up their game and had the ball down in our half a few times. Our defence remained solid (as ever - the Fantasy Hockey prices don't lie), well apart from the hilarity of 3 defenders on a free ball in the D with all 3 failing to clear it, resulting in a short...Fortunately the strike was off target and Zoe expertly blocked a highish rebound shot on the back post.

Having taken the foot off the gas for a mad 10 mins the forwards were back on it and Alida put away her hat trick with a wonderful heel click in mid air to celebrate and Olivia and Anna were ever ruthless in their hunt for goals.

The last goal went in seconds before the final whistle giving us a 13 goal victory and another clean sheet. Not something we particularly revel in but with our nearest rivals breathing down our necks a healthy goal difference could be what decides the top two positions at the end of the season. At long last we go top of the league in our own right with a game in hand and a superior goal difference, well played ladies!! Our march to promotion continues!
