The Ladies 4s took to the field for their second game of the weekend on Sunday to battle Linlithgow 2s who were relying on a win for a chance of promotion. With a full squad, it was clear Linlithgow meant business.

Determined to remain unbeaten, Watsonians put the pressure on early and within minutes were on the scoreboard following a tap in from Alida assisted by Olivia. Linthlithgow fought back finding their way into our defence through some well interlinked play. However with a whack of the ball from Lynsey, the ball was back in Linlithgow's half and at Olivia's stick. One on one with the keeper, Olivia had already slipped the ball in the back of the net before half of us had even made it past the half way line to provide support.

Meanwhile, having run 7 miles and walked 3 to get to Peffermill to fulfil a late and unexpected call up, Becca made an appearance (we'll send you our fixtures list to work your holidays around next year Stuart).

2-0 down and promotion slipping away, Linlithgow had fire in their bellies. The visitors refused to give up and found their way back into the 'Sonian's D. Shot after shot, Linlithgow were eventually awarded a short corner which Tammy unfortunately blocked with her wrist (. Another short was awarded and a goal was scored by a forward at the top of the D, bring the score to 2-1 just before half time.

The second half opened with another fast goal from Olivia, assisted by Holly. A counter attack from Linlithgow reminded the Ladies 4s that the game hadn't been won yet. A number of 1-2s from the Linlithgow side and some fast attacking drives down the wings ensured that our midfield had to be switched on and provide support deep into defence. With a good clearance from Tammy, the ball found Carly who drove down the wing before releasing it to Holly who took back control of the game before making a hit to Jodie who went on to score her second goal of the weekend, bringing the score to 4-1 for the Ladies 4s.

With a shinty swing, Linlithgow were back in Watsonians' half and a lifted sideline ball to Julia's knee took her out of the game (#bleedmaroon). A fallen player forced a quick reshuffle and the battle resumed. Still in the Watsonians' half, Linlithgow finally got the breakthrough they had been working for. A nippy forward managed to slip past our defence, ricochet the ball off the post and into the backboard, tightening the score to 4-2, despite a diving effort from Katie in goals.

Another drive down the wing from Carly brought the play back into Linlithgow's half. fFllowing what seemed like a game of ping pong between Judith, Holly and Jenny, Captain Jodie managed to break away from her defender and find her way to the post to knock in the final goal of the game, concluding the score at 5-2 to the "Mighty Watsonians Ladies 4s".

A big thanks to Zoe and Richard for umpiring.

The Ladies 4s look forward to their penultimate game this weekend against the University. Can we increase our unbeaten record to 17?!
