Twas the last game before Christmas....

‘Twas the last game before Christmas, when all thro’ Tipperlin
Not a space on the bench, not even an inch;
The hockey socks were pulled up to the knees with intent,
In hopes that goals would soon be imminent;
The L4s were huddled all ready to go,
While visions of winning hopefully soon to follow,

And the team in maroon, it’s been a while,
Had just settled our brains for the match with a smile-
When out on the pitch the whistle blew loud,
We sprang into action, Watsonians and proud.
Away to the wings the midfield flew like a flash,
Sticks and bodies colliding with a bang and a crash.
To our goal bravely manned by our keeper Aoife,
Did the players in yellow conjure a goal from the ether.
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
Olivia sprinting down field without fear.
An equaliser, quickly followed by another,
Record-scorer Julia putting Fidra in bother.
Getting into our stride and into a flow,
What's that? An equaliser with 10 seconds to go!

Half-time arrived with the score at 2 all,
Mark 48 and the goal hanger was our Captain's call.
With our fill of sweeties we returned to the game,
To start the second half with a clean slate again.
Determination and focus, we had the fresh legs,
"Please let us score!" Katie Dunlop begs.
Some squandered penalty corners, had we run out of luck?
Oh no we weren't, two goals quickly followed, (thank...duck)
The credit for the first of these two is disputed,
An OG perhaps? At least it went in, that can't be refuted.
The final goal of the match was a first one for Jenny,
Hopefully not the last, but the first of many!
The final whistle blew, Suze making one last cross,

A win for the team but also a loss.
Carly, our Man of the Match had her final curtain call,
Tears were shed for her and the match ball.
So, as Anna nurses her flesh wound and the rest, our sore heads,
Merry Christmas L4s, I'm going back to my bed...
