Match Report by Angela Davies.

This week saw ESM 3s visit us for the late fixture at Tipperlinn and we were under the floodlights just like mid-week Champions League – except with sticks, skorts and twice as many thrills. Catie C stepped up to take on the important job of 'being big' in goals and with a raft of subs Watsonian’s were keen to get out and entertain the crowds.

A strong start from the beginning with a really solid defence team made up of Lynsey, Tammy (back from her eco retreat) and Ellie who were all getting nose bleeds from playing high and allowing the midfielders to really support up front. The first goal came early from Jodie who was causing the ESM defence severe problems with her majestic weaving movements around them. The tricky angle leaving her slightly off balance but she styled it out, victory parading back to the halfway line like a gold medal thoroughbred at the Olympic dressage.

Second goal was not far behind. Carly ran to line, passed to Jenny in the D who crossed it and Alex scored. Half-time whistle gone and 4s were 2-0 up.

The second half we used our rolling subs well, avoiding hypothermia on the sidelines. Some fantastic skill from Katie G and Ashley saw us continue to threaten the opposition and as always Jenny was keeping the engine running in the middle.

Of course, no Ladies 4 game is complete without a comedy moment. This week it was provided by Jenny and Lynsey, a scramble for the ball leaving Lynsey flat on her face. We’re meant to tackle the other team Jen! She’s just too keen.

Continuing on, after a hit in by Angela from the top D, Julia made a dream deflection - high strike to the back of the net and scored our third goal. There was a slight pause in proceedings as L4s struggled to believe their eyes – goals like that are surely only reserved for the upper echelons of the Scottish Hockey leagues. Julia ‘goal machine’ Patience then went on to score a fourth after Alex had a one-on-one with the goal keeper which rebounded towards 'Julia's' stick.

Tired legs towards the end of the game saw Watsonian’s lose their form a little and ESM were able to make a break. This resulted in a nail biter finish as ESM won a round of short corners but just weren't quite quick enough for our masked ladies.

At that point, the fireworks went off signalling to the city that it was a triumph for the Ladies 4.
