Off the back of a convincing performance last Sunday, a buoyant 4s team showed up for the big game on Saturday, despite the weird weather soaking them during the warm up and blinding them during the first half!
Unfortunate timing of a call up to the 3’s for two of the young guns in the 4’s meant that our not-so-secret weapons were no more, and with limited subs carrying injuries, and support for the 4’s on the sidelines seemingly outnumbered by that for their clubmates, it could easily have affected the 4’s enthusiasm for the game. However, the 4’s love a challenge and started the first half with their heads held high, but they were immediately under pressure from excellent passing play from the 3’s. A couple of tough spots saved by some excellent keeping by Saskia kept them going, plus some ultimate dedication to the defence of goal by Tammy’s head, but the 3’s kept coming and managed to sneak a couple past. The first half ended 2-0.
Half-time haribo and a tactical discussion ensured a great start to the second half, with some overdue pressure on the 3’s defence. A goal was close for a while but the 3’s were tenacious and unrelenting and the ball found the back of the 4’s net three more times. The 3’s deserved the win but it did feel a little like the legs of the 4’s had been cut out from under them…
Dedicated as ever and as evidenced by the team Whatsapp, Aoife, Becca and Nic continued the legless theme into the early hours. Bravo!
Thanks to Iain and Swarbs for umpiring and a special shout out to Olivia for your support.
