Match report by Rebecca Parker

With an unexpected all time high availability of players for the Ladies 4s, captain Julia had the unusual luxury of cherry picking her squad for this weekend's fixture against CALA 4s. A threat of a coup on her hands she opted wisely to keep old gaffers Jodie and Becca on the team sheet. Perhaps hoping their tried and tested leadership could help steer the team back on track to winning ways.

Our opponents being the only team in the league to lose as many games as us, there was an air of optimism amongst the 16-strong squad. Although stark warnings from captain 'not to get cocky'. What us? Humble is our middle name. Or at the least the staple of our diet having had to consume a lot of humble pie since promotion to East 1. Watsonians started strong with debutant Dunz, Holly and Julia linking up well to put pressure on the CALA defence. We were rewarded with an early goal - Julia leading by example. We continued to pile on the pressure and managed another goal before half time, Nicole pouncing on a rebound off the goalies pads. There could have been a third but Jodie has clearly been doing too much of that cani-cross recently, choosing to take her stick for a walk rather than use it to score goals.

2-0 at half time and the team were feeling buoyant. More warnings not to get complacent...yeah, yeah...Maybe should have heeded those a bit more as CALA came out fighting at the start of the second half and looked to make a few advances into our D. Thankfully the 'oldies' at the back were on hand and their experience showed as they kept the CALA forwards at bay. It was time to step it up a notch and our midfield did not disappoint. Jenny, Katie G and Ashley worked tirelessly to drive the ball forwards and Rebecca A seemed to be in all corners of the pitch at all times. A cross in from Holly conveniently found the end of Jodies stick to put us 3-0 up. This marked a turning point in the game and from then on Sonians were unstoppable. Despite an excellent performace from the CALA keeper, 4 more goals followed - 2 from Rebecca A, 1 from Jenny and ending on a final goal from Ashley.

Fantastic play all round but Player of the Match was awarded to Rebecca A.

Thanks to LJ (aka AJ if you're called Holly Wilson) for umpiring.

DoD - Holly.
