Match report by Jenny Hughes

The A-Z of Playing The Borders (Fjordhus Reivers)

A is for Aaaarrrrggghhhh. It’s 12pm and we’ve got no subs!

B is for Borders. It’s quite a long way to go (and not win).

C is for Cydney, our expert tackler. We call her Cyd because she sounds like she’s from Sydney (genius).

D is for detours. Travelling with Efa is a lovely way to see a selection of Tesco car parks between Edinburgh and Gala.

E is for Efa, Ireland’s answer to a missile drone. No opposition defence is safe from her closing down.

F is for 5-1, the score this game should have been, were it not for some well-applied umpire pressure.

G is for GOOOAALLL! Jenny skinned a player and pulled one back.

H is for Heidi and her tireless running all game.

I is for ‘Is it actually 70 minutes that we ALL have to play?’ Yes girls, yes. *Weeps*

J is for Julias! Captain Marvel was brilliant as ever.

K is for ‘Kill Me Now. I haven’t played a full match since the 90s.’

L is for Lynsey, our defensive rock who had an awesome match.

M is for midfield running. Ang never stopped all game.

N is for no freakin’ subs. ARE YOU ACTUALLY KIDDING ME?

O is for opposition. They were pretty chuffing good at set plays.

P is for proud. The scoreline doesn’t reflect just how well we played.

Q is for quality. Fifi Rae and her precision skills were just the addition we needed at defensive-mid.

R is for Rozy. This girl gets better and better in defence.

S is for Saskia. Our German GK played a blinder and kept the scoreline acceptable.

T is for Terrier; Becca had an absolute humdinger of a match, chasing runners and smashing tackle after tackle after tackle.

U is for underdogs. We didn’t have enough players, we didn’t have enough cars, we couldn’t find the pitch… and yet we still played well.

V is for very dubious penalty flick. We woz robbed.

W is for Waverley station. Props to Julia and Rozy for getting the train doon.

X is for X-rated language… when we all found out there were no subs.

Y is for youth. There was only one player on Borders team who wouldn’t be ID’d buying ciggies - yikes.

Z is for all the zzzzzzz-ing I’ve been doing today. I played 70 minutes of hockey yesterday, dunno if I mentioned it??

PoM: Becca
DoD: Jodie for ending up in A&E before the game

Thanks to Stuart for umpiring at short notice!
