Match report by Katie Dunlop

Apparently Manchester United Goalkeeper David De Gea set some sort of record with 14 saves this weekend, pah! Saskia our German wonder keeper did that against one short corner on Saturday!

The Mighty Ladies 4s started the day with an actual full team and a sub but quickly lost our advantage due to late calls of illness, then down a keeper after half time, then possibly down another and a reminder that Nic had a broken toe. Fortunately Aoife could play after all, Tammy was persuaded that she wasn't that sick and I decided it was probably time to get back between the sticks. Apart from not having any balls, first aid kit or masks we did actually manage to turn up at Tipperlinn on time, well some more on time than others as Nic lambasted us all for being late then realised she was actually an entire hour early... these DoD awards really do write themselves... (Captain Julia meanwhile sat reading her Whatsapp quietly weeping in Thailand drowning her sorrows with another cocktail).

Anyway we had made it onto the pitch and with an injection of youth thanks to schoolgirls Grace, Iona and Caroline we had a pretty solid team. We started strong and kept pace with Liberton during the first half. Saskia made some cracking saves on the short corners and we were unlucky to lose a goal, we were oh so close to scoring a number of times only to be denied by their keeper.

A quick keeper change at halftime (it appears you never actually forgot how to put the keeper kit on) and some cunning silky smooth moves planned for passback we were back on the pitch as the light began to fade. They were so cunning they looked like we didn't do it right but that was all part of the plan...

Our back line of Tammy, Jude and Iona remained solid which is probably just as well as Liberton came at us with the kitchen sink. Nothing like breaking me in gently... Saves from knees, hands, elbows and a head were required (much to the delight of superfan Al!). Jude, having been pushed up front made a glorious solo run up the the D. She was unfortunately denied by the goal just being slightly too far to the left and being too fast for anyone else to catch her and provide support (and most of us were still detangling from a goal mouth stramash down the other end).

Finally we got a short and after the first shot was saved, a stick appeared out of nowhere, flipped over and reversed the heck of it into the back of the net, we had a goal!!!

Jude was recalled to sweep and we parked the bus in the D for the last five minutes, and after what seemed like an eternity the final whistle went and we had a well deserved point!

Grace wins the 'hard as nails' award for not even flinching for a ball to the ribs directly from a sideline ball. The opposition umpire was seriously impressed! Great game against a really nice team. The Mighty fours go into the winter break with a lot of confidence and looking forward to continuing to progress in the new year and get some more points under our belt!

Thanks to Fi for umpiring and all our supporters.

Finally, tis the time of year to be merry and festive, best wishes to you and yours from the Mighty Watsonians Ladies Fours!

PoM: Katie Dunlop
DoD: Nicole Johnson for turning up an hour early
