Scottish District Cup - Round 2

The Ladies 4s/5s combo came together for a second time on Sunday in the second round of the Scottish District Cup against Hillhead Ladies 2s.

With almost an equal split between L4s and L5s, we got off to a bit of a shaky start as everyone sussed out how and where everyone played. Despite many attacks from Hillhead and led by Alida and Judith, our defence stayed strong and managed to block their shots on goal.

Attack after attack, something had to give and Hillhead managed to squeeze through 2 goals - 1 unlucky one and 1 not even Saskia would have had much luck in stopping. Kudos must go to Rozy for firstly stepping up to the mark and making a number of spectacular saves in her goalkeeping debut.

The first half ended 2-0 - time for Haribo and a team talk.

With pass-back, Watsonians put the pressure on early which resulted in Ellen being one on one with the keeper, who unfortunately came out too fast and, being twice the size of the 14 year old, battered away Ellen's opportunity of glory. Unlucky but this gave us the confidence to press further.

Despite an improved understanding of everyone's style of play, working better together, and a lot of hard work in midfield, Hillhead 2s managed to score a further 3 goals and the game was ended 5-0 to Hillhead securing their place in the next round of the cup. A great team to play against and we'd like to wish them the best of luck for the next stages of the competition!
