Hot Hockey – Ladies 4’s final match of the season

The Ladies 4’s had their final match of the season in East District Division 1 on Saturday. We were playing the mystery team, WIT (Waverley, Inveresk, Trinity) for the first time, as they had conceded when we were first due to play them, and this game had been re-arranged twice due to snow etc. After a spot of sunbathing, we warmed up (literally, was v hot) with the classic eggs in a basket before our final match.

The starting whistle blew, and we were off. Both teams were passing the ball around, trying to make breaks for the first 10 mins and getting in to the flow of the game. With a lot of running on and off the ball, the Watsonians midfielders then seemed to have a lot of possession, leading to controlled passes in the D and a few attempted shots on goal before Rebecca scored the first goal of the match, and then a second goal shortly after and just before the half time whistle.

Solid passes in the second half meant that Watsonians had some early breaks, and were given a couple of shorts. Occasional breaks from WIT meant our defence were working back, marking their players in our D and attempting to cut their passes to try and regain possession. After some 1-2-1 passes and Neve’s stick skills slickly passing the ball up the wing, Rebecca scored again, making the score 3-0. The final goal of the game was scored by Julia, too quick for the goalie to get a stick on. WIT came back strongly but shortly after, the final whistle blew and we were delighted about ending the season with a win.

I’m sure we will all celebrate in style next weekend at our team meal!
