Match report written by Saskia Braun

Welcome to another sunny day at Tipperlinn and the second league game for the L4s!
Our opposition today came from the Eskvale Hockey Club; the team had been promoted from East district league 2 last year so we were not sure what to expect.
But does that matter? Having won our first game and strengthened by plenty of fitness training (shush!) we were brimming with confidence! 12 motivated ladies were eager to get onto the pitch!
The first half began with a mutual scan and cautious approach, but soon the game picked up speed.
Watsonian’s 4s showed their strength and excelled with smooth combinations and good long passes which generally kept them in the opponent’s half. Continuously under fire of the well dominating Maroons, Eskvale caught a series of corners, one of which resulted in a fantastic hit and goal by Jodie!
Now we were pumped! The game continued with more speed, more time in their half, more corners and solid team play. Eskvale continued their thoroughly defensive tactic, keeping defence and midfield unmoved in their own quarter and occasionally sending three strong forwards for a lightning attack to our D. They were strong and eager to score, but were pushed back by Judith, Catie, Rowan, Rozy, supported by omnipresent Heather and well-positioned mid-field players which meant our half was mostly kept clear and goalie Saskia didn’t have much to do. Encouraged by the lead, the team kept on pressing and within minutes tirelessly working Heather rewarded all with a well-deserved second goal.
Taking a 2:0 into half time, we were all in excellent spirits and agreed that We Deserve More! After a short briefing and the traditional half time Haribos, the 4s were back on the hunt.
Watsonian’s picked up their strong game and were met by fully motivated Eskvales. Their team were determined for a comeback and stepped up their attack game. Heated tackles, lots of dribbling and a strict umpire made the game more even. Eskvale earned themselves three corners, however with no change to the score board. The Maroons continued their game and the impressive forwards and midfields dribbling skills made especially the young crowd cheer on their seats! Winged by this support, Alida rounded the game off with another wonderfully played goal which became the final score.
Bottom line: 2 won league games, no goals against, a healthy growing team with full-grown motivation: ideal conditions to try and make this season OUR season!
Final score: 3-0. Thank you Ozzie for umpiring. Player of the match: Rebecca and Julia
