Match report by Katie Dunlop

Finally back at Fortress Tipperlinn the Mighty Watsionians Ladies 4s turned up on mass (and even at the right time...) to take on Liberton 1s. Julia took one for the team and decided her gym related injury meant she would warm the bench so we wouldn't be too confused with all the subs.

Liberton had only let in two goals so far so it promised to be a tough game but confidence was high and we had our secret speed merchant school girl trio of Rowan, Heather and Neve to unleash! Things started well and the ball was in the Liberton D within the first few minutes, but we couldn't quite get anyone on the end of it.

After some end to end action, Liberton finally got the break and won a short which they buried in the goal despite the defences Tammy like heroics to get to the ball. 1-0 but we were matching them stride for stride and it was time to unleash 'old Skool' Liv...The team veteran went on a twisting and turning run, skinning the Liberton backs like she was a mere teenager again (edit she still is...) and the Liberton keeper was called in to make the save.

Realising this was going to be a harder game than they perhaps though Liberton kept up the attacks but Saskia pulled out some stunning saves including a triple that caused the opposition to almost say bad words. More shorts were awarded but Rozy running like a woman possessed managed to shut the straight strikes down. Lauren, Jude and Catie were like an immovable objects and ensured nothing else got through.

As the rain came down we continued to pick up the tempo and second half continued at a frantic pace. Heather relentlessly drove the ball into the D again and again, passing left and right but we were thwarted by their keeper and a few unlucky decision.

Hannah summed up the work ethic of the team with a full on diving lunge for the ball to keep it in, she did state that perhaps it wasn't her best idea but it sent the fans wild and gained admiration from the opposing umpire!

Unfortunately despite our best efforts we couldn't quite get the equaliser but one of those games where even though we lost it felt like a win and was celebrated with plenty of glitter and pumpkins at the post game pub golf! (make of that what you will...) Our best game of the season so far and gives us a lot of confidence going into next weeks double header.

Thanks to Stuart for umpiring.
