Part one of the infamous double-header weekend and the long trek to Kelso was made. After some confusion about the location of the new school, the 4s were ready for action and a win after a couple of pretty unlucky losses over the past few weeks. Even though the pitch was not quite what we were used to (and meant more running was now to be involved!) we started out strong, pushing up and gaining a short within the first 10 minutes. After a great strike from Kirstin, which was unfortunately saved, and in true ladies 4s style, Becca scored our first of the match- a scrappy but well fought goal. 1-0 and we begin to gain more and more confidence on a pitch that many likened to a shaggy carpet! Another short was won from Imogen and was fired in from the edge of the D by Jenny, who as always, was very chill about the whole affair! Kate F and Francesca pushed up through the middle and continuously provided great feeds to the forwards, while Lauren, Becca E, Rozy and Kate T were a wall as usual- Saskia hardly got a boot to anything! Into the last quarter of the game and while 2-0 up, the team was hungry to make up our goal difference. After a lovely pass from Becca, Liv dodged the defenders and scored with a thankfully accurate reverse sweep, just pleased to get on the scoresheet again! The wind was beginning to grate on the team and one last push resulted in another goal for Jenny, crossed from Liv (name a new more iconic duo!) and the game was won. Despite a weather warning from Catie earlier in the day, the rain mercifully stayed away but I’m not sure even the wet weather could’ve dampened our win today- lets go for a double win tomorrow!
