All geared up and good to go we were eager not to let this wet and miserable day dampen our spirits at Home. As ever captain Mel gave a cracking team talk with the now memorable lines, “respect the umpire” and “responsible…” to get us all in the festive spirit ahead of our Christmas meal.

With a full squad of 16 and lots of young (some more than others) legs we were game for whatever Preston Lodge had to throw at us. Catriona, Liv and Suzanne were up front dominating and so it wasn’t too long before Catriona got one in the back of the net and we were up 1-0.

Preston lodge were throwing everything they had at us (literally everything Jodie has the bruises to prove it) the rest of the first half was a hard fought fight. They equalised but that didn’t deter us from playing some great hockey with lots of passing the ball round the back and some smooth switches (see Paul we do listen…sometimes).

Saskia was keeping them at bay and Jena, Jodie, Jen, Catie and Rozy were playing a stormer saving our bacon on the line on more than one occasion. We were holding on but they managed to sneak another one in just before half time.

**Half Time**

Mel’s segments and sweets went down a treat. The sugar rush was just what we needed to get us back on the pitch soaked through. There were some great saves though some good goals from Preston Lodge in the second half; one in particular deflecting into the top corner was just too high for some of our wee players to stop. Our mids kept on going though with some great plays from Anna, Mel, Kirsten and Julia it seemed we would get a few back.

Though sadly even with most of the possession and some wild tricks around the Preston Lodge players it was not meant to be. The game finished with Preston Lodge having a series of short corners, all but one was stopped (whilst we would dispute it) it was a goal in the end….WILD!

Player of the Match – Catriona

Thanks Rob for umpiring.
