Ross High Ladies 1s - New Year, New Us

First game back after the Winter break and there were butterflies all round. True to form captain Mel and a not so well vice Liv got us all warmed up and raring to go. With Ruby stepping in to help us in goal we were determined to show how far our team had come since the beginning of the season.

A shaky start allowed Ross High to get two quick goals in, but our defence kept their strikers at bay with Ruby making saves that even Ross High’s umpire admitted were en point! We soon settled into the game and started putting on the pressure; Kate using the wings to get the ball out and around their high press at hit outs to AJ, Mel and Julia who took the ball up and got a few shorts. With Kate at the top there were a few near misses (genuinely we thought one went in) from Jena at back post.

Half time team talk and Mel’s sweets gave us all a few pointers to work on and the encouragement we needed. We continued to play well in the second half. There were plenty of short corners at both ends but our stellar defence (Rozy, Jena, Jen, Hannah, Catie and Ruby) kept out everyone! We were playing well, chasing down the ball, making passes and good plays with Catriona, Suzanne, Liv and Janey upfront cutting about in between to create some movement. All the hard work finally paid off as Liv outran Ross High’s defence; giving her and Julia (who had made a killer run) the chance for a 2-on-1 with the goalie….which they won with only 6 minutes to go!

Sadly Ross High went onto sneak in a goal from a short so sadly the score may not reflect it but the second half was definitely ours!
