Liberton Ladies 1s - The One with the Ice Hockey Goalie Kit

With Captain Mel living it up on the slopes we left to our own devices for the clash against Liberton 1s. After a minor blip involving a missing keeper kit we gathered ourselves and got our heads in the game ready for a thrilling game of hockey.

An early goal from Liberton gave us the shock we needed to up our intensity and ‘fire’! The counter attack led from AJ in the middle of the park saw us win a penalty corner shortly after conceding. If in doubt then the ‘Killer K’ short corner comes out to play. With a lovely pull out from Jena and a nice cross in from Liv made it an easy tap in for Kate. We were back to a level playing field with all to play for. 1-1.

Some intense pressure from an experienced Liberton midfield and forward line allowed them to sneak another goal in despite Saskias best efforts and some cracker saves in the lead up. 2-1. There was little relief from the Liberton attack keeping the Watsonians defence on their toes. Some great individual play from Jen and Catie at the back saw them pick out plenty of dangerous passes in the D. Unfortunately, the pressure from the opposition resulted in a 3rd goal conceded just before the half time whistle. The 1st half ends 3-1.

Half time team talk, fuelled by the usual haribo, gave the girls a chance to gather themselves and discuss areas for improvement in the second half.

The second half saw some lovely link play from defence to midfield to forwards, working some slick passes in from Jodie at left back to find Julia on the wing before making it up the baseline to Catriona. Some more great tactical play from Hannah and Birthday Girl Rozy in the midfield created more chances for a Watsonians attack which unfortunately proved fruitless.

Exhasuted from our efforts coupled with an impressive finish from Liberton in the D saw us now trailing 4-1. Watsonians, determined not to let our heads drop, continued to create chances for a comeback. Hannah C kept a level head in central defence and sent some lovely passes up towards the opposition D. Rachel P and Liv's impressive off the ball leads were unlucky not to rewarded with a goal. Tired legs and again some good skill up front led to a 5th goal from Liberton ladies. Final score 5-1.

A scoreline not representative of the effort and determination exhibited by Watsonians Ladies 4s who will come back fighting again next week for their encounter against Cala 3s. The loss was mildly cushioned by the comfort of some post match cupcakes to celebrate Rozy’s 26th Birthday!
