Colts smash home ten.

Colts vs Edinburgh CALA M3s

A slightly different match report for our final game of 2015. This is due to a couple of things, first when you see the score line, there was no way I was able to recap what happened; and second, I thought I’d reflect on the half season we have had as a new team at Watsonians.

The game would have the Colts up against bottom of the league CALA. The team we had beaten 5-0 only a few weeks before. The Colts would be coming into this game after a friendly defeat to a combined Watsonians 3s/4s team on the past Wednesdays training session. Though the score line hadn’t gone our way, the performance was excellent against a tough opposition, playing against players from three divisions above our lowly East District 3.

The captains pre match team talk, pressed home that if we played with the same intensity as we did on Wednesday, then there would only be one winner in this match; he also demanded we at the very least match the five goals we scored the first time round.

A confident start from the first whistle would convert into three goals by half time.

Scorers- Heigh x2 and D Tandon. Assists- Cannon x2 and R Tandon.

The half time team talk only asked for more of the same; and we still needed two more goals to match the last score line.
In true Colts style the team turned it up a notch. CALA only managed to vacate their half on the rarest of occasion, giving Sam Gibb nothing to do but sit on the back board. We really gave the spectators a show, scoring another seven goals, with a great style of hockey to both play in and watch.

Scorers- Heigh, Cannon x2, Raez, Evans, Waugh and Wood. Assists- R Tandon, Waugh, D Tandon x3, Cannon x2.

A great team effort finishing the first half of the season with 9 wins from 9 games and a healthy goal difference.

I was asked by one of the GWC players, why I decided to get involved by the Colts? At the start of the season I probably couldn’t have given you a reason, it seemed like a good idea for the club to try putting a Colts side into the league. Now, after playing half a season with these new Watsonians, I can honestly say that each of them, to a man, has impressed me in some way. Whether it is with their ability, attitude, hard work, personality or dedication. I think myself and the other regular senior players have really enjoyed seeing the development of these boys and know we will continue to improve as a team. I also think that a number of players in the other men’s side should watch their backs, these boys will be coming for your places in the team!

So a solid start for the Colts. The votes for ‘Man of the Match’ go convincingly to Murray Cannon this week.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Looking forward to the second half of the season already.
