Colts smash home six for another win.

Alpha Data Carnegie M4s vs Watsonian Colts. 31st October 2015

This would be the first road trip for the Colts, with parents and players stepping up to make sure the whole team had transportation. With the GWC’s 1st and 2nd Elevens playing in the morning, the boys were keen to get stuck into some more men’s hockey.

With a successful insertion into Fife, the Colts settled into some drills to warm up. And warm up they did!

Within the first five minutes Murray Cannon had opened the scoring. Soon after the Colts were on the offensive once again, quickly making it two. Carnegie made some substitutions to try and stop the early route. With the game settling into a bit more of an even balance now, it was once again the Colts who beat the keeper. 3-0 and flying high.

Carnegie would break our line before the half. A long ball cutting out our midfield would allow the opposition striker a shot into the bottom corner.

3-1 half time.

The half time team talk would encourage us to keep pushing forward and a formational change to a 4-4-2 would stop our midfield being outnumbered on occasion.

The Colts would press from the start. Quick play down the right from Calum Wood, earned him a path into the D, where he drove straight for the goal, getting a shot away and striking a defender on the line, getting the Penalty Flick. Fraser Heigh would win the argument for taking the flick, scoring the goal, but not with the usual style his game normally has. Did the ball actually get to the goal? Just, only just ☺

Pressure would grow on the Colts defence. Mainly coming from the opposition number 26, who was the main outlet for every pass in the Carnegie side. He would end is day with three goals to his name, though we would not know what that name was as he wasn’t included on the team sheet and made a swift exit after the final whistle.

Fraser Heigh and Murray Cannon would finish with three goals a piece, with the final score of 6-4 to the Colts. The game eased to end with Carnegie being reduced to ten men, for decent, and the Colts forwards playing the ball in the corner.

Another good team performance, with perhaps a slightly tighter score line than it should have been.

With two hat-tricks from the boys, it was tireless midfielder Calum Wood who would claim this weeks “Man of the Match” award, with other votes going to the goal scorers and defender Yusuf Zahid.
