Report by Derek Brien (Manager)
The first match in our 'double-header' yesterday afternoon was the rescheduled game against Gullane and we assembled at a bright and sunny (but VERY cold!) Tipperlinn for the all important warm-up. S2 goalkeeper Sasha White had very kindly offered to play in both games and Craig Yelland put her through her paces on the side-line, whilst captain Ellie Simpson took the rest of the girls through their stretches and ball-work. George Thornton had arranged for four additional S2 girls to play and after introductions the game got under-way.
The initial exchanges were fairly evenly matched, but we were giving their strikers too much respect in our 'D' and Gullane took advantage of our hesitancy to score a lovely reverse-stick strike to go in 1-0 up at the break. Coaches Andy and Dave imparted words of wisdom at half-time and the now obligatory Haribos were handed round by way of sustenance.
Shortly after the restart we went another goal down. Ellie Simpson pulled one back for us with one of her trademark pile-drivers, but a short time later Gullane restored their two goal lead. We pressed to try and get back in the game and Yazi Murray tucked away a lovely goal at the back post. Alas, time ran out for us and we went down 3-2, where a draw would arguably have been just reward for the girls efforts in the second half.
Thanks again to S2 goalie Sasha White and her team-mates Bea Raitt, Alice Mackie, Maisie McNally and Zara Sime for being worthy additions to the squad on the day.
With 17 Whites players going on and off the pitch a revolving door would have been handy, but hopefully we managed to give everyone equal game time.
