A trip down the M8 to Uddingston kicked the season off for the Sonians men's 1s. Sonians started postively forging out several early opportunities and were rewarded midway through the half when Andrew Katsapanos rounded the keeper and finished on his reverse from a tight angle. The sides defensive press was strong, and Uddingston found opportunities in the D hard to come by. When a break through the line was achieved, Luke Campbell in the Sonians goal stood tall to deny the oncoming attacker. The away side did not heed the warning, however, and an Uddingston attacker broke through again several minutes later, winning a short corner which was finished smartly with a deflection at the back post. A final chance of the half fell for Sonians in the form of a short corner, however, Scott Sutherland was unable to capitalise leaving the tie all square at the break.
The second half began in much the same fashion as the first finished with Uddingston dominating possession but watsonians creating the majority of the opportunities. The lead was retaken by the away side after a lucky break: having once more broken through the Uddingston rear guard, Katsapanos' attempted square ball was deflected into his own goal by a hapless Uddingston defender. A third goal followed 10 minutes later when Jack Kinloch's reverse stick effort was deflected in at the back post by Fraser Heigh. Concentration from the restart was poor however, and Uddingston immediately pulled a goal back when their forward dribbled right through the Watsonians defence and finished powerfully past Campbell. A nervous 15 minutes followed with Uddingston throwing everything forward, including substituting their keeper for an outfield player with 5 minutes to go. The away sides defence held firm though, and Sonians secured a hard earned 3-2 victory.
