Ladies 1s Vs Edinburgh Uni

It was the return of Friday night lights for the ladies 1s. After success against Kelburne the week before we headed into the game with a positive mind set against last year’s league winners. Shortly after past back Uni came at us hard and taking advantage of a slow start by the ladies going down 1-0 within the opening minute. We didn’t let it get to us, as we started playing some nice passing hockey with the result of the hard work being an equaliser, bringing us back into the game through a goal from Heather Tait. A fast pace end to end game lead to both teams getting cut open to allow shots on target at both ends. Uni being the more clinical team, lead to goal to make it 2-1. Watsonians continued to persevere and continue to pressure the opposition. However, finding it difficult to get the ball out against the Uni press to lead to a 3rd goal from the students. Watsonians hard work paid off as we earned ourselves a penalty corner right at the end of the first half. With the initial shot saved Heather Elder pounced on the rebound which hit the back of the net making it 3-2 to Uni at half time.
The second half was all to play for. As the second half started Uni were the faster team out of the blocks. With their persistent pressure, it leads to them increasing their lead to 4-2. Nobody was wanting to give in and it was still a fast end to end game. It needed the team to stay strong and not get complacent. Once again the students were more clinical in the circle getting a 5th goal. With 20minutes left on the clock the game could have still gone either way but some tired legs and Uni defending the circle well Watsonians struggled to find the extra goals needed. An exciting game ended 5-2 to Uni.
