After 3 losses in a row and a 5-3 defeat to Dundee Wanderers last weekend, the ladies 1's were looking to pick up 3 points against Grange who they beat comfortably in the cup earlier in the season 4-1. Watsonians were slow to get into the game and although Heather Tait scored within 2 minutes, this lack of focus allowed Grange to pull one back 5 minutes later. Some mediocre play from both teams kept the game at 1-1 until Watsonians won a corner. Grange stopped the ball with their body awarding the girls a penalty flick. Unfortunately, we were unable to make it count and the game stayed at 1-1. Some skilful play allowed Dani Johnston to make it 2-1. Olivia McMahon had an amazing run and some skilful dribbling past the Grange defender to allow Mairi Shaw to slot it past the keeper off a rebound. Some poor pressing and overall defending allowed the ball to be hit through the middle late in the first half where Grange were able to make us pay from a short corner. It was 3-2 at halftime. Watsonians were a shadow of their former selves in the first half but pulled their socks up after a stern talking to by Keith Smith. Watsonians had most of the possession in this half allowing Olivia Bell to score from a drag flick at a short corner. Elder had a strong drive and slotted it past the goalkeeper later in the second half and Tait finished up our day with a nice finish into the net. A good result in the end but Watsonians will be looking to improve on the performance going into next weeks game against Kelburne at home. A win will keep them in 6th place and the girls hope to end the first half of the season with a positive goal difference and 13 points.
