Please note the guidelines below issued by the Galleon/Centre for Sport regarding car parking at GWC.
We are aware of the current congestion issues currently being experienced in and around the West Quad (outside the Galleon/Centre for Sport). We would just like to remind users that the campus is very busy, used by many groups and visitors across the week, so space is always going to be at a premium at peak times, as will congestion. To help in such circumstances when it is busy, there are alternative parking options available across the campus that can be utilised.
If there are no spaces outside the Centre, you are welcome to use the areas below and highlighted in the attached document.
- In the car park on the left as you enter the campus (at the War Memorial)
- In the East Quad (go straight on before turning) i.e. do not take the turn to drive along the front of the senior school building)
- At the front of the School building (not in the visitor spaces, please)
- In the car park behind the Galleon (accessed from South Gilsland Road via the Junior School entrance)
- Parking on the surrounding streets is also free of charge weekdays before 8.30am, after 5.30pm, and at weekends.
To help keep the campus safe and accessible for everyone, please park only in designated spaces, and reverse park. We kindly ask users not to double-park, stop in the one-way system around the West Quad to drop off or collect passengers, or wait in your vehicle in this area as you may obstruct traffic. As the campus is a one-way system, and if there are no spaces free outside the Centre, you are required to exit the campus and come back in again.
In order to avoid this, we would advise taking the first available space you can see as you enter the campus.
We would also like to remind users to please not park in a designated disabled space, should you not be a blue badge holder. We do have members who require these spaces and as such, they should only be used by those who are able to do so.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
